Right now, we are touring educational institutions throughout Denmark. Teachers from UCplus meet international students and give them their very first Danish lessons.
– But why learn Danish? I probably won’t be in Denmark for very long…
Travelling is unpredictable. It often happens that international students change their mind and stay a little longer after all. Maybe you establish a close connection with someone living in Denmark. Perhaps you discover that you have good job opportunities here. Or maybe you have completely different reasons. But whatever makes you stay in Denmark, you will get much more out of your stay if you speak the language. You will be able to participate in the local community and in social events.
– But everyone speaks English…
We’re not going to lie to you. Most Danes speak English. But good jokes are still mostly told in Danish. Small talk in the canteen becomes incredibly boring if you don’t understand a word. The newspaper headlines are in Danish, and so are most signs and posters.
– But Danish is so difficult to learn…
Whether a language is difficult to learn depends on who is to learn it. Danish is a Germanic language just like English. The English word ‘egg’ is actually the Danish word ‘æg’, brought to the UK by the Vikings. You will find many similarities between Danish and other languages that you know.
We also promise that you will have fun together with your fellow students on your Danish courses.
