About the collections
The collection of art from the Islamic world is the museum’s largest. It contains objects created in the area where Islam was the dominant religion, from Spain in the west to India in the east, and covers the period from the 7th to the 19th century. The collection of art from the Islamic world is by far the largest of its kind in Scandinavia.
In addition to the Danish interior from the early 19th century in the Golden Age Room, the older European collection includes furniture and other handicrafts from the 18th century. There are fine groups of Nordic faience and Danish silver, as well as examples of the earliest production from the Royal Porcelain Factory.
The newer Danish collection contains paintings, sculptures, and handicrafts from around 1890-1950, including important works by Vilhelm Hammershøi and J.F. Willumsen. Read more here.
